Pain Killer Drugs are Killing People

by Tony Bowling on November 2, 2011

It seems that pain killers are also killing some of the people that take them. About 40 persons per day in the US according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The following are excerpts from a BBC News item on their website about the use of pain killers in the US. It is dated 1 November 2011.

The entrance to our local grocery store

Start of excerpts:

Overdoses of pain relievers cause more deaths than heroin and cocaine combined, the report has found.

Narcotic painkillers are prescribed to relieve chronic pain but the drugs can be “highly addictive”, the report says.

The report, published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said fatalities caused by narcotic pain relievers have more than tripled in the last 10 years – equivalent to 40 deaths a day.

The report says enough medicine was prescribed last year to keep every American adult medicated for one month.

In 2008, almost 15,000 deaths were caused by prescription painkillers, including the death of actor Heath Ledger.

END of excerpts.

This is of course terrible news.

Why are doctors doing this? They are trusted with the authority to prescribe medication for the improved health of the people and yet per this report there are 40 deaths PER DAY from this one drug type alone in the US.

Look at these photographs that I just took of our local grocery store. One of the signs states “Get a [Shingles] shot and save 10% on your next grocery purchase”

Doctors are prescribing pain killers that kill the patient. Grocery stores are pushing medication along with organic apples. It is a crazy situation.
